Mahesh Kumar FCA

Founder and Principal

Mr. Mahesh Kumar is a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA) of the prestigious Institute of Chartered Accountant of India (ICAI) and alumnus of Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), with over three decades of experience in tax litigation and advisory, including resolving complex and high stake disputes with various revenue authorities in cases of income tax search and seizure and prosecution matters before the Income Tax Settlement Commission (ITSC) and under the Black Money Act, Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), Prohibition of Benami Property Transactions Act, besides advocacy before various appellate authorities and writ courts across India.

With his expertise in tax laws and practice recognized at the highest levels, Mr. Kumar has had the honour of serving as Taxation Advisor to India’s then Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh.

In recognition of his distinctive and outstanding contribution to the field of taxation, Mr. Kumar has been conferred the Capital Foundation National Award by Shri Naveen Patnaik, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Odisha in the distinguished presence of Mr. Justice R.M. Lodha, former Chief Justice of India.

Mr. Kumar’s association extends to the Indian Economic Association, specifically the Trust for Research & Development, chaired by Dr. Singh. Mr. Kumar has also collaborated with the renowned economist Dr. V.R. Panchmukhi, who is known for his significant role in the liberalization of India’s trade policy and in shaping India’s economic and taxation landscape.

Mr. NP Sahni belongs to 1965 batch of Indian Revenue Service (IRS) and has held many senior positions in the Government of India, including Assistant Director of Enforcement (Foreign Exchange), Appellate/Inspecting Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax, Commissioner of Income Tax/Director of Income Tax (Inv./Vig.), Joint Secretary to Government of India, Ministry of Finance, Dept. of Revenue, CBDT (Tax Policy & Legislation/ Foreign Tax Division), Chief Commissioner of Income Tax/ Director General of Income Tax (Investigation/Administration/Systems), Member, Income Tax Settlement Commission (ITSC), New Delhi and Vice Chairman, ITSC, Mumbai.

Additionally, Mr. Sahni has also served as Senior Standing Counsel to the Income Tax Department before the Hon’ble High Court of Delhi in numerous landmark tax matters, covering all aspects of direct taxation laws.

Manohar Lal IRS (retd.)
Advocate (Tax)

Mr. Manohar Lal has served as an officer in Income Tax Department from 1969 and gained experience in handling complex search and prosecution cases. On selection by Government of India in 1978, Mr. Lal received training in United Kingdom on income tax law. Mr. Lal voluntarily retired from the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) in 1989 and joined the Bar as a Tax Advocate, sepcialising in income tax, excise, customs, service tax laws. Further, Mr. Lal has also defended many tax prosecution cases before the district and higher courts.

Mr. Lal is also a highly respected writer on tax matters, which includes his book titled “New Assessment Procedure for Search Cases” (published in 1995), discussing the then introduction of new search procedure in Chapter XIVB of the Income-tax Act, 1961. Mr. Lal’s views are frequently sought by professional organizations through lectures on search and tax prosecution.

AK Singh IRS (retd.)

Mr. AK Singh retired from the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) after more than three decades of service, holding many senior positions, including that of Chief Commissioner Income Tax, Lucknow, where Mr. Singh led a team of more than 200 tax officials. Mr. Singh has an expertise in all litigious areas of the Income-tax Act, 1961, in particular investigation, survey, search and prosecution matters, holding the distinction of one of the longest serving IRS officer as Direct General (Investigation).   

Anand Chaudhuri
Advocate (Tax and Crime)

Mr. Anand Chaudhuri is an Advocate with more than a decade of litigation experience, specialising in both direct and indirect taxation law, revenue offences and white collar crime, representing tax payers before Special Courts in prosecution matters and tax appellate authorities like the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) and Writ Courts across India. Mr. Chaudhuri is also admitted to practice law in NSW Australia as a Solicitor.
